Merit: Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards (SLAA), 2015
Kerala, located on the Southwestern tip of India, enjoys unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations. The landscape strategy focused on reinforcing the existing natural landscape character, by creating an environmentally balanced and sustainable native landscape.
The site planning and landscape design for the resort was derived and inspired primarily from two sources, the existing site character and the art of Roberto Burle Marx. The soft fluid lines and composition of Burle Marx’s painting, reminiscent of the canals within the existing site, gave form to the overall master-plan layout. The natural forms and landscape character create a unique sense of place for the resort, and at the same time responds in a sensitive and responsible manner to the delicate ecosystem of the Kerala backwaters.
